Coastal Adventures
Main Location: Tangier, Nova Scotia
Coastal Adventures has been a pioneer in providing quality instruction in sea kayaking in Eastern Canada for over three decades. Whether you are looking for an introduction to the sport or are seeking advanced training, we have something for you in our program. We offer courses leading to certification by Paddle Canada. In addition to our own instructors, we often bring in experienced coaches from outside our region who are leaders in the sport. This allows us to keep abreast of the latest ideas and techniques in sea kayaking.
Course Director, Scott Cunningham is a biologist and sea kayaker who has explored the Atlantic coast by canoe and sea kayak for decades. In the summer of 1980 he circumnavigated Nova Scotia in a canoe and in 1982 he established Coastal Adventures. He has published Sea Kayaking in Nova Scotia, a detailed route guide, and his articles have appeared in several magazines and books. He has been instrumental in developing Canada’s first national sea kayaking program for Paddle Canada and was the first chair of the sea kayaking development committee. He is Senior SK Instructor Trainer and a BCU Coach 4(sea).
Lead Instructor, Gayle Wilson, is also a BCU Instructor as well as a Paddle Canada IT. She has trained numerous students and aspirant instructors as well as guiding sea kayak tours in Nova Scotia, PEI, and Newfoundland. Gayle has a Bachelor of fine Arts from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design which complements Scott's science background.
