Sea Kayak Guide

Job Summary

Lead sea kayak tours and assist with all tours and other operations at East Coast Outfitters (ECO) if time permits. They will be responsible for the organization and delivery of all tours. They are the front line of ECO and must serve customers by providing quality product and service information, safety, and customer care.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Provide quality customer service while interacting with all ECO clients

Prepare for and lead all assigned sea kayak tours conducive to all ECO guidelines

Provide support for all Sea Kayaking tours

Maintain customer care and professionalism throughout all tours
Maintain all ECO equipment in a clean and professional way

Assist all clients in preparing for their tour

Ensure that tours, rentals and events operate safely and are successful
Represent ECO in a way that adheres to the mission, vision and values of the business

Have knowledge of all ECO programs and products so as to provide customers with options and recommendations to best suit their needs

Assist with any other ECO events

Required Education, Skills or Certification

Skills and qualifications:

Customer Service, Product Knowledge, Quality Focus, Problem Solving, Documentation Skills, Listening, Phone Skills, Resolving Conflict, Analysing Information, Multi-tasking

Education and experience:

Paddle Canada instructor and/or instructor trainer certification or equivalent recommended.

All positions require the following:

Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status.

Proficiency in English, other languages especially French & German are an asset.

Good organizational skills

Familiar with the outdoor environment

Articulate and people-oriented

Ability to work with little supervision

Robust to inclement weather

We require the following:

Minimum: Paddle Canada Sea Kayak Level 1 Skills or SKGABC, BCU, ACA, equivalents. Paddle Canada Level 2 skills course is recommended.

Appropriate First Aid certification – Minimum WRFA (3-day course- 24 hours total with overnight trip). Must include CPR & CPR-C.

Marine VHF Restricted Operators Certificate recommended

Appropriate experience for the position.

Paddle Canada Level 1 Instructor/Instructor trainer certifications are an asset as they could lead to more work instructing courses

Progressively increasing depth of knowledge of the Atlantic Ocean, its flora, fauna, early history and geological features.

Appropriate personal equipment, e.g. PFD, Marine VHF, immersion clothing, etc.

Experience Required

Leading people on the water, leading sea kayak/paddling tours

The ability to work as part of a team.
Responsible, reliable, decisive, mature individuals

Any guiding or customer service experience.

Salary

$15-18 hourly

Hours per week: 30-40 hours for full-time. We are also looking for those interested in PT hours doing a few tours a week or whatever they would like to fit into their schedule. This is a summer position from May to October and can lead to a returning position each year.
