Waterfront Kayak Instructor

Discipline: Sea Kayaking Stream: Instructor Development

The Waterfront Kayak Instructor course provides the theory and skills necessary for instructors to lead introductory kayaking skills and activities in a safe, controlled environment.


With a strong focus on fun, games and safety, this two-day instructor program is designed to introduce candidates to activities, skills, teaching techniques, and knowledge to effectively teach the Waterfront Kayak program.

A Waterfront Kayak Instructor is certified to:

  • conduct Waterfront Kayak skills courses and certify paddlers at that level, and
  • assist a Basic Kayak Instructor on a Basic Kayak skills course.

Course Prerequisites
  • At least 16 years of age.
  • Certification

  • Teaching Experience
    • None
  • Paddling Experience
    • None, though some previous experience in a kayak in flatwater conditions is highly recommended.

How to Register for an Instructor Course

  1. Contact the course director/organization and register with them first.
  2. Register yourself as an instructor candidate member with Paddle Canada by following these steps:
    • Are you existing Paddle Canada member or a past skill course student? Login to your account and follow the instructor candidate link there.
    • Are you brand new to Paddle Canada? Proceed to the Instructor Candidate membership form.
