Coastal Canoeing Instructor

Discipline: Canoeing Program: Coastal Canoeing Stream: Instructor Development

There is only one instructor level within this program. Successful candidates receive the Coastal Canoeing Instructor certification at this level.


The Canoe Canoeing Instructor is certified to:

  • conduct Introduction, Intermediate and Advanced Coastal Canoeing Courses,
  • assist on Coastal Canoeing Instructor Course, and
  • apprentice on Coastal Canoeing Instructor Course.

Course Prerequisites
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Certification
    • Paddle Canada Advanced Lake Tandem Instructor Certification or,
    • Paddle Canada Level 2 Sea Kayak Instructor Certification with Advanced Lake Tandem skills.
  • First Aid
    • Current certification in wilderness first aid and CPR (14-16 hours).
  • Other
    • VHF Radio Operators Certification
  • Experience
    • Experience beyond that of an Advanced Coastal Canoeing skills course.

How to Register for an Instructor Course

  1. Contact the course director/organization and register with them first.
  2. Register yourself as an instructor candidate member with Paddle Canada by following these steps:
    • Are you existing Paddle Canada member or a past skill course student? Login to your account and follow the instructor candidate link there.
    • Are you brand new to Paddle Canada? Proceed to the Instructor Candidate membership form.
