Introduction to Canoe Poling Instructor

Discipline: Canoeing Program: Canoe Poling Stream: Instructor Development

This is the entry point into the Paddle Canada Canoe Poling Instructor program. There are two levels of instruction certification within this program. As such, the fundamentals of instruction receive considerable emphasis during the Canoe Poling Instructor course.

Successful candidates receive the Introduction to Canoe Poling Instructor at this level.


The Canoe Poling Instructor is certified to:

  • conduct the Intro Canoe Poling course,
  • assist on Intermediate Skills Canoe Poling Skills course (Intermediate Canoe Poling certification required)
  • assist on a Intro Canoe Poling Instructor Course (Intermediate Canoe Poling skills certification required)

Course Prerequisites
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Certification
    • Paddle Canada Intermediate Canoe Poling skills, or comparable skills or certification with permission of the course instructor.
  • Experience
    • Experience beyond that of an Intermediate Poling skills course.
    • Comfortable swimming in shallow waterways.

How to Register for an Instructor Course

  1. Contact the course director/organization and register with them first.
  2. Register yourself as an instructor candidate member with Paddle Canada by following these steps:
    • Are you existing Paddle Canada member or a past skill course student? Login to your account and follow the instructor candidate link there.
    • Are you brand new to Paddle Canada? Proceed to the Instructor Candidate membership form.
