The Adirondack Mountain Club is running four Leave No Trace Master Educator courses in 2014. The dates are:
- May 14-17 (Frontcountry)
- July 19-23 (Backpacking)
- August 18-22 (Canoeing)
- September 3-7 (Backpacking)
Cost: $629 for Adirondack Mountain Club members ($699 for non-members; become an Adirondack Mountain Club member and save 10%).
Course fee includes instruction, curriculum and teaching materials, a subscription to the Leave No Trace Tracker and a one-year Leave No Trace Individual Membership. One night’s lodging in the loft of the Adirondak Loj, meals, group equipment, and transportation during the course are also included.
This five-day course is designed for individuals who are actively teaching others backcountry skills or providing recreation information to the public. Through classroom discussions, lectures, and a four-day canoe or backpacking trip, this course will incorporate the seven Leave No Trace principles with the tools and techniques for disseminating low-impact skills to other users of the backcountry. The Frontcountry course provides participants with a comprehensive overview of Leave No Trace techniques through practical application specific to frontcountry settings including camps, nature centers, small parks and other day use recreation areas. The frontcountry course will be based in ADK’s Wilderness Campground, requiring a minimal amount of hiking. This course is ideal for federal agency partners, educators, outdoor retailers, youth group and outing club leaders, and other individuals actively teaching outdoor skills. Upon completion of the course, you will be qualified to teach Leave No Trace Trainer courses. The Leave No Trace Master Educator qualification is recognized and valued throughout the outdoor industry.
