Aim

To provide a national certification in the instruction and administration of the Paddle Canada Introduction, Intermediate, and Advanced Moving Water Instructor courses. There are three levels of Instructor Trainers. Instructor Trainers are considered leaders in the moving water or whitewater paddling community and have significant influence over the success and safety of the Moving water Canoeing in Canada.

Prerequisites

Moving Water Canoe Instructor Advanced Tandem 

Must have taught 2 Advanced Skills Courses in the last three years.

Upon Successful Completion

The Moving Water Canoe Instructor Trainer Advanced Tandem is certified to:

Canoeing Basics

Course Length

Dependent on Mentorship Process

Ratio

Maximum 1 Instructor Trainer: 2 Instructor Trainer Candidates

May increase Instructor class size by 4.

Location

Class III rapids with up to moderate (average) wind. River and rapid conditions and class (I or II or III) as well as subject matter must coincide with the certification level of the instructor. Insurance is not valid if the instructor is teaching beyond her or his certification level.

Courses will be cancelled or postponed when conditions do not provide the necessary environment.

Program Overview

Candidates must mentor on at least 1 (one) Moving Water Instructor Courses Tandem Advanced.

Candidates must teach at least 50% of the time.

Candidates are to produce an Instructor Course outline for the mentoring Instructor Course.

Be recommended by the Instructor Trainer(s) that candidates are mentoring under.

Assessment

Instructor Trainers are expected to have mastered the Advanced skills of the Moving Water Program.  

They must demo the highest demo quality manoeuvres on the Intro Instructor Course.  

They must seem comfortable and show the mastery in skill, knowledge, and safety for the course they are mentoring and teaching.
