Here is a good example of how instructors members were able to help and apply their training in an urban emergency. As Dympna, James and Markian from Learn to Kayak (Parry Sound, ON), were driving across Saskatchewan recently, they came across a truck roll over and stopped to help.  Having just recertified their Wilderness First Responder with WMA, they jumped into action providing hands on stable c-spine control. They also protected driver from -4 degree elements, with a thermarest and sleeping bags,  while they waited for ambulance to arrive.

After accident was over, they were exhausted, and the car was a mess from pulling all the sleeping bags and gear out. Now they needed to find a place to wash sleeping bags in Regina and have a hot meal.

The three PC Instructors were on their way to Sea Kayak Guides Alliance of BC training and a PC Level 4 skills course for Dympna and Markian, out of Tofino, BC. James and Dympna travel back across country in early May, in time to coach present at the Paddle Canada Atlantic Paddling Symposium (May 11-14, 2012, Nova Scotia).  We hope their journey is a little less exciting than this one.
