On The LineAn 1,150 km oil pipeline from Edmonton to Kitimat is being proposed by the Enbridge Corporation in order to expand tar sands bitumen production and delivery to Asian markets. On July 1st, 2010 Frank Wolf and Todd McGowan will depart Fort McMurray, Alberta on a 2-month, self-propelled fact-finding mission to determine how the construction of this pipeline will affect Canadians, our wilderness, and the world.

The first 450 km of the journey will follow the existing oil pipeline from Fort McMurray to Edmonton by bicycle, traversing the industrial heart of the tar sands. From Edmonton, the pair will continue on foot along the proposed Enbridge bitumen pipeline route to Kitimat- crossing the Rocky Mountains, Coast Mountains and over 1,200 watercourses along the way. From Kitimat, they will join up with Ian and Karen McAllister and kayak the 130 km proposed tanker route through one of the world’s most pristine and unique ecosystems.
